A fuel pump is used when the fuel tank is mounted lower than the carburetor and cannot use gravity to carry fuel through the fuel line. Briggs & Stratton fuel pumps develop pressure using the vacuum in the crankcase, which is created by the motion of the piston. A fitting on the crankcase cover or the dipstick tube draws the pressure to pump fuel.
DR Mower Note - While this is a genuine manufacturer's part for Briggs & Stratton engines, it fits a ton of other engine manufacturers too and is the most common fuel pump used on Craftsman, Toro, Husqvarna lawn tractors
Helpful Tips Inlet and Outlet: The bottom outlet (on the side with the gold round window) goes to the carburetor (Fuel out) , the top inlet is (Fuel In) from your tank and the side inlet is the (Vacuum Pulse) that goes to the valve cover.
If this fuel pump is being installed on a Intek V-Twin engine originally equipped with a metal fuel pump, replace the pulse line.
